James Gosling Java founder leaves Oracle as CTO

James Gosling have decided to leave Oracle without any big reason from James Gosling or James Gosling might tell the story behind his resignation after leaving the organisation.He has made his resignation on April 2nd and disclosed the information to the public through his blog.Now Oracle has to choose a new Chief Technology Officer for its organisation equivalent or better than James Gosling.As you all aware of James Gosling being the Co-founder of Java and have been involved in many other projects.

Earlier James was the Chief Technology Officer of Sun Development product group.There is no specific reason revealed for James resigning the position in Oracle.But he himself wrote the following phrases judging the reason behind his resignation
“As to why I left, it’s difficult to answer: just about anything I could say that would be accurate and honest would do more harm than good. The hardest part is no longer being with all the great people I’ve had the privilege to work with over the years. I don’t know what I’m going to do next, other than take some time off before I start job hunting. ”

But James Gossling’s decision about his next company is still pending.

TCS to announce Appraisal policy changes along with Hike on April 19 2010

TCS is all set to give some pleasant surprise to its employees very soon, not only the highly anticipated 10-15% hike throughout the board, but some changes in appraisal process too. The process changes are rumored to be aimed at plugging many loopholes in the current system.Also expect some of the previously discontinued benefits to be reinstated.

The policy changes are expected to be announced along with the Quarter and Annual results, as per market watchers the results are expected on Monday 19 April 2010, and typically after market close. The policy changes are aimed at providing relief to much complained aspects of the appraisal. They are listed below

1. Fair review for associates getting release during appraisal, or ones joining new teams just before appraisal. (This is for sure)

2. Fixing a maximum ceiling for higher bands for higher grades in a project ( This is highly doubtful as Senior  management wants middle management to be happy all the time).

This is a bit of information I received from someone who has the know of things, but wasn’t willing to reveal everything, so if anyone has idea please let us know through the comments section.

Sprint’s latest 4G WiMAX modem. It connects upto five devices and downloads 10 times faster than 3G.  Now you connect your phone, your laptop and anything else wirelessly that uses Wi-Fi and get 4G speeds in seconds. You can download files really faster.


When your are out of the 4G coverage the Overdrive drops back to 3G, using Sprint’s EVDO Rev.A network. Nokia has two mobile phones with more or less same technical specifications and features but with some small difference in dimension and with the data input.Both of these mobiles are exclusively designed for business purposes with many features like sending Emails,connecting to the office intranet using phone as modem,built in GPS features and Ovi maps to find exact places,Document Viewer for Word,Excel,PPT and PDF available in E66 whereas all these files can also be edited in E71.Nokia E71 comes with Full QWERTY Keyboard which for some users make the data input very easy as they will already be used to data inputs using keyboard.

My Last day with TCS

To all the TCSers reading this..  I have quit TCS after a reasonably long innings (for IT sector), with this friday I have completed my mandatory 30 day notice period and will be moving on to a newer organisation. Will that be any better than TCS is for anyone’s guess.But atleast one solace that Im getting a 60% hike on my current package .

You might wonder why Im sounding  little sad at this, yes just like you I have complained about this company, rejoiced whatever good things they have offered, flaunted the brand name with friends and family and met some really moronic managers  here too. My overall experience has been happy.

People dont leave companies, they leave bosses (supervisors  more adept for us)

When I joined TCS as a fresher and after my confirmation I came very close to quitting TCS,  when my PM said “Your technical skills are unquestionable, but you argue a lot with your superiors” and threatened to screw my ratings, he never did and he ended up giving good rating. He taught me a valuable lesson “If u don’t question your supervisor, you can be happy”.  I have maintained a silent profile and a decent rapport with all my managers,that is before I got into this account by a twist of fate. Being in a large organisation like TCS  you will one day face people,  looking at whom you might wonder  “How the hell did he come to this position?? “,  I did meet a few err, umm many of them actually. And when you have personal ambitions, want release  etc.. things usually dont work out well with your supervisors. This guy is just the typical supervisor we have seen so many people writing in the comments section, So I guess I dont have to explain the details. After the appraisal discussion, or basically a bargain involving many irrelevant factors, I found that its not in my best interest to stick with this account/Manager, who wasn’t ready to leave me easily. And said goodbye to them the very next day.

HR who??

Our account HR is one of a kind (maybe not), when she joined  our account she met everyone individually and collected the grievances and said she will try to resolve them then  forgot all those like a politician. For every simple question the answer would “First talk to your supervisor”, “We cant do anything about that” or “This is a business decision, I cant do anything”. After sometime she was more like PA for the GL/PM.

Joining TCS again ?

Sure why not, there is all likelihood one might end up having Supervisors just like this guy in any other company. My overall experience in TCS is of a good one. Considering TCS treats its laterals much better than its own employees, joining TCS  later in the career maynot be  a bad choice at all.
