TCS gives its employees a Diwali surprise – 1.5 times the VA (Diwali Bonus ?)

has been in the news for All bad reasons recently, for a change today the TCS Management has announced 50% increase in VA Quarterly component for the just concluded quarter. This is applicable only for this quarter and not future VA components.

Most of the are expected to receive the increased VA in october salary, this will  give a minimum bonus of Rs 4000 and upwards . This could be a way the company is trying to mend way with its employees and probably a Gift from the new N Chandrasekharan.

Below is the excerpt fromVP & Head of Global , TCS

Congratulations and thanks to all of you for your tremendous effort. Considering the of the company in this quarter, I am pleased to announce the management decision to pay 1.5 times of the quarterly component of the variable pay for the quarter ended 30 September, 2009, applicable for eligible employees on payroll.

Anyway Happy Diwali everyone..

  1. Hi All,

No need to be so happy, as all of the employees were expecting a salary hike not a 50% more of the VA. As Infy has declared 8% hike in the salary of the employees, we were expecting not 8% but atleast 5%.

    1. Do you join the company blindfolded? If you cannot accept the performance linked VA, and understand that performance is the basis for your pay, you’d better join the government or start your own paan-beedi shop (paan-beedi – you may not do well either – because if your performance here is worthy only of 2, at least you get a basic salary – paan-beedi shop doesn’t guarantee that).

      1. We don’t need advice from you. We joined TCS when we had lots of other options and now are frustrated because we now realize we have invested many precious years in a company that is now unexpectedly betraying us. Yeah sure we can easily shift but then we have to start in a brand new environment and make new relationships.

just because you probably joined a long time back and got automatically promoted and you probably don’t deserve. probably sitting around sending emails and getting a fat salary for it.

        so don’t give stupid advice

        1. I agre to the above answer by ” You probably joined tcs long time ……. ”

I joined TCS 2 yrs back and got a consistent rating of 4. My total exp is 4 yrs and now all of a sudden the RMG forcibly made to join a project which is totally a different technology. Also the AM is threatening if u will not perform well i ll reduce ur rating. I told him it is obivious if someone has worked on a technology for 4 yrs and all of a sudden if he is (forcibly) made to change the technology the output will not be the same as before. First of all it not only demotivates the employee but also the employee loses the morale.
          Secondly it affects the promotion.
So the only motivating factor is the salary and the VAs. VA is not deterministic but Salary is atleast fixed. Hence instead of giving 1.5 times VA the company shud have gone for giving a salary hike.

          1. You guys are losers in denial. I joined the company two years ago. I have performed well – I am ACTUALLY – actually in Internal IT support. You know – the kind of guys who run around solving other people’s problems. You guys are wallowing in self-pity, you should come to where we sit and see how we do our jobs. We may crib, but we don’t do it out here.

      2. Hey Dude &Dudettes

Thats the best decision By the what the fish is VA ” Variable allowances ” . They Manipulate the system and generate a Band , There is something i been wanting to tell, I actually dont have a VA , so how exactly will it show a reflection. Its a very Funny announcement. I am getting very less paid then my previous company now, when i joined , they gave me a good pay , good hike, and took everything away. I repent , just work in this concern for 1 yr you probably become a maniac , or they will make you insane . Just dont refer this company even in your dreams to your enemies . Let them not suffer , I almost got heavy mental pressure , thyriod , high BP and what not . I had enough just wanted to give myself a break and ive quit the Organisation. I have never been happier in my 2 yrs career with this F******g company , i am so relived. I took a brave decision, even though i had huge financial commitments because i dont want to loose my sanity. May be i can get many jobs , but if i loose my brain i dont think i can get it back …………………….

  2. Something is better than nothing….& 29 % zoom up in Net profit for Q2 results!!!! i mean i get optimistic very easily and i am thinking …like hmmm…this may benefit all of us who have literaaly slogged like anything for peanuts…!!!

  3. Well,Memory seems to be shortlived. They had cut few months back. All decisions are being taken with the “Employee base cost” kept in mind,Do not be taken by “bonus”

  4. They are actually fooling everyone by saying 50% extra. 50% sounds like a lot.

BUT if you caculate this, for a 2 years experienced person in TCS, the quarterly component is 1800 rupees. This 50% percent more means he gets 900 rupees extra for the quarter, or 300 per month.

This is basically a 1% hike where as infy got a 8% hike.

So TCS gets a profit increase of 29% over last year, and the employees get a salary hike of 1% over last year, and that two the employee base has not even increased so there is no justification for this huge disparity in the profit hike and salary hike.

TCS you better give a proper salary hike or the employee resentment will be so high you will definitly get only people who don’t know english and diploma holders to join your company.

  5. Well said John, u are right and the same set of calculations was running in my mind too..
ramadorai and chandra took hike in their packages in terms of crores, and see the way they have projected “+50%” in Variable component to its employes. This only sounds to me like dropping Rs. 1 coin put into begger’s plate with loud noise.
Time has come for TCS to give atleast some value to its employees, else the attrition rate says it all “good bye to TCS and its BSc/diploma resourses” , who dont even know how to reply to clients mail…

  6. TCS is a big time sucker. 50% VA hike is just a sort of “soothing” cover on the wounds. It’s like master throwing breads at his dogs. I have never seen a ugly, cheap company like TCS. I’m searching for a job outside for betterment of my future. And to mention, I have advised many not to join TCS and will continue to do so.

  7. Any news about VA increase for the newly promoted ITAs ?
Its funny a 2007 ITA promoted assosciate almost earns double that of 2009 promoted ITA!!

  8. Hello Frustated TCSer.. :@ and John , Request not to comment about diploma holders and Graduates , at first place u should not join the company where diploma holders and Graduates are residing , as you are the Hi-tech people , so this is off the topic , in some of the projects dip and graduates are better than hitech guys . FYI.

And coming to TCS VA , we dont have any thing to cheer up and happy about the VA news , as this is part of our salary , there are 100’s of people still not promoted since 2008 by short fall of 1 or 2 days as per the new criteria , ad no news on 2009 promotions . This is the worst HR practice i have ever seen in corporate.

    1. dude read the post properly, @john said nothing about graduates.

point is if TCS continues like this they will have to keep lowering the bar on recruits.

and obviously he makes a good point, TCS bar will be pretty low if they have to recruite Diploma candidates when few years back they use to take only B.E/BTEch with consistent >70% academic record

  9. TCS again makes a fool of everybody and does a whitewash of the media. 150% one time va payement comes to approx Rs 3k for upto 5 years exp professionals in TCS, and thats the majority of the employees. So the media goes gaga over 150% and the employee gets just Rs 3k as a one time payment. 🙂

  10. Anyone who has got a rating of 2 in his/her career and does not perform private chores of his senior mgmt is unfir to be promoted.Thats the real Tata Gem company’s policy for y.

  11. TCS is left with bunch of jokers and bloody hypocrites. I wish ill luck to TCS if they don’t amend their ways of working. Blood suckers !

  12. Hi All
If you had happened to read the transcript of the message from Chandra (new CEO) you will notice that he has nothing to say for employees. There was one question why there has been nothing mentioned for employees and his response was I have it my last statement that we will make TCS a joy for all stakeholders (thats it). This shows how much he respects the employees and cares about the employees. He forgets he is also an employee of TCS. The new insurance plan for Expats in US is an insult to all employees who have any kind of self-respect (I will write in detail about that later).
From my point of view this company TCS is no good. They are not mutually beneficial and they are just exploiting employees and have no plans to retain talent and make it a joy for all stakeholders. Their only aim is to earn revenues for themselves and the company (as it is related). I would describe these guys as parasites always sucking on others blood to lead a luxurious life with basic pays upto Rs6 lakhs a month.
Seriously before the next time he posts his speech he needs to review it once to make sure he is not insulting the strength of any software company. Unlike any other industry the S/W industries major expense is people and nothing else. All the profit is because of the people who do all the work and it needs to transcend down when it comes to benefits. As of now I dont see any benefit (for employees) working in this company. Beware lateral hires and freshers. If you dont have an alternate offer then come and experience the Certainty (of bad to worse, worse to worst employee benefits) if you have an alternate offer consider that or else you will repent for the lost years that you worked with this company.

  13. Hello,

I have heard that some pay hike is on the cards and team ultimatix is working on it. The reason for pay hike could be the fact that the industry has started hiring and many people from TCS are looking for better and brighter options outside.

This news is not confirmed and I would request all fellow TCS’ers here and Admin to check and post here.

    Cheers!

  14. Guys, in one of the many promotion related posts on Dexternights, I had commented that if I am denied my well-deserved promotion without any logical reason, I’ll quit TCS in 90 days’ time irrespective of whether I get another job or not. I had said the same thing to my supervisor on the face, in front of the whole team, interrupting the weekly team-meeting, making his face and ears turn red with anger. He never relaliated because he knew I had nothing to lose. He just quietly complained to the Delivery Manager who later told me about it and asked me to tone down. I asked him to check his mail instead as he hadn’t seen my resignation yet.

However, as soon as I put my papers, the HR and the local ethics counsellor triend to persuade me to take my resignation back and give them some more time so that they could work out something about my promotion and all that considering my case as an ‘exceptional case’. But I had already made up my mind so my answer was a straight faced ‘NO’.

Today, I have come back to update all of you with this piece of information that I quit TCS on the 27th day after my promotion was officially denied – of course with a much better offer from a good company.

Now I am out of T CS and so far I have been enjoying every bit of it.

And, I am quite certain that I am NOT the only one doing so. Many have done that and soon many more will follow suit.

Wish all of you all the best.

    1. BRAVO! All the best dear:). What was the designation you would have been promoted to? how many years of experience and which TCS branch? Actually branch doesn’t matter because the culture is same in every branch of TCS. It used to be a sarkari Babu company and still the decision makes are babus. Until, that stays the same, nothing is going to change. Those who touted about job security in TCS, it can be seen that in recession times, randomly people were picked and forced to resign. First Babu’s appraise an employee with a opaque band of D and then organization axes them out. TCS was the first one to increase working hours to 9 hours in name of poor exchange rates and poor reallization. Management continues to sell the same shit to media and employees.
      Bravo man!

  15. Hi All, I got an offer from TCS , with ASE as designation and C1 Grade. can anyone please explain me

what about the onsite chances , I have been offered in Hyderabad location..

actually ,I have 3.6 years of exp , i have just joined SYNTEL 2 months back with 6.2 packge and looking for HYD position . previously I was with Cognizant with packge of 4.2. TCS is offering me 5.5 based on my Cogni Salary.
So pls advise me , is it good to join TCS ? also can my salary be negotiated , iam ready to join if hey offer me the same i.e 6.2

    1. @ratnakar….

i work @ tcs since 4 yrs.. even with a visa i am struggling to get onsite here due to politics. my sincere suggestion is dont get carried away with rumours like tcs will send u onsite within one year and also dont join here with a lesser package as you need to work for atleast 2 yrs back to back to get ur original 6.2.. trust me

      1. @ratnakar….
I am working for TCS for last 8.5 years and a meagure package of 7.6L PA. Was waiting for a promotion and market conditions for last 2 years before walking out. Just got promotion to AST after a delay of 2 years and that too with a hike of Rs 100 Per Month in Basic salary. Got onsite opportunities when I did not want to go and when I was desparate to go, did not get opportunities. Onsite salary is same for last 4 years + no indian salary at that time. Appraisals are unfair and ridiculous. Management is full of muddlehead people. Everything opaque with absolutley no transparency at any level.
Like Kumar rightly said, you will have to work for 2 years, even at more than 10 hours a day at times, still no good reason for bad appraisal to reach the level of 6.2L. Even if you get onsite after an year, you never know when you will be sent back because management decisions come on a fly to cut 20% workforce from onsite and sent back.
When it comes to employee’s growth, if you dont have Godfather, you will be just one member among the herd of thousands and thousands of fellow employees who wander in darkness and wilderness with no light in sight.
Dont recommend to join this company. Final decision is yours.
