Benefits of eating breakfast

We are showing a lot of interest in keeping our mobile phones fully charged and wearing quality clothes / cosmetics items but that much interest is not shown in eating healthy foods and in keeping our body fit. People tend to skip their breakfast for some petty reasons. Some do as they don’t have time and some for weight loss.

By eating breakfast regularly, we can avoid heart attacks and strokes at first place. Platelets, the body’s blood clotting cells, become “stickier” in the morning before breakfast. This increases the tendency for a blood clot to form during the morning hours. If such a clot occurs in a heart blood vessel, a heart attack can result. As expected from this physiology, most heart attacks occur between 7 AM and 12 noon. Eating breakfast can help the platelets to become less sticky and thus decrease the risk of morning heart attacks.

After getting up from sleep, our body would be totally depleted of energy and nutrients and our brain and body need fuel to function for the whole day. Breakfast is their first chance to recharge themselves fully. Nutrients are necessary to enhance the problem-solving and memory retention skills. Eating a healthy and proper breakfast helps improve your thinking ability and will keep your mind in top mental condition.

When should we eat breakfast?

We should eat within 2 hours after getting up from sleep. We should not be keeping the body and brain      without food for long hours in the morning. It is like trying to run a vehicle without fuel.

Why breakfast is important for weight loss

It is a common myth that skipping meals helps weight loss. But in reality it has a negative effect on weight loss especially skipping breakfast.

You may wonder how skipping the breakfast affects weight loss and you might think if we don’t eat food, then body will use the stored fat in the body and it will lead to weight loss but unfortunately that is not how our body functions.  Breakfast has got the name from the fact that it breaks the longest fast our body goes in a day i.e. from dinner to next day meal.

Breakfast

When we wake up from sleep, our body is totally depleted of energy/vitamins. If we don’t eat food in the morning, then our body enters into starvation mode as a response.  In starvation mode, our body starts to burn calories in a very efficient way and starts to save it for future in the form of fat in the body.

Moreover when we skip our breakfast, we will soon become hungry before the lunch time and start to eat snacks or tea/coffee loaded with sugar. These foods won’t have enough vitamins and minerals that our body needs so till our body gets enough minerals/vitamins, we will remain hungry. As a result of that, we tend to eat a lot of food in lunch time. As our body is in starvation mode, it uses this opportunity well and stores them all as fat.

Thus we gain weight instead of losing it when we skip breakfast.
