Reliance Netconnect Broadband and TATA Indicom’s photon should we buy them?

There is a lot of buzz about these two newly launched products from Infocomm and Indicom, both promises speeds of upto 3.1 Mbps, and both claim this is the fastest broadband plan available in the country. And both claim they are better than any of their nearest rivals, so are all these claims true? Obviously as we know about these two brands not everything is true. Lets see how they fare in their promises.

Speed :

Though both claim the speeds of upto 3.1 Mbps, TATA Indicom says the speed at anytime can be shared between upto 20 users basically bringing down the Minimum guaranteed speed to 150 Kbps, as same as the normal plan. . Also they mention the speed depends on time of day, coverage etc.

Atleast TATA Indicom had the coutrtesy to mention contention ratio but Reliance doesnt even mention the minimum guaranteed speed in their website. Even in their chart they have mentioned average speed as 500 Kbps and have mentioned TATA indicom's avg speed at 400kbps .

Coverage :

TATA Indicom has extremely poor coverage and is available in Certain parts of ,,Mumbai,Jammu and Kashmir and North east. Call TATA Indicom customer care before opting for this as they havent provided any coverage map.

Reliance fares better in this covering 35 and covers most part of the cities like Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai, , Bangalore, Ahmadabad etc. Reliance claims to have 4200 towers capable of Wireless broadband and according to Reliance (yes as per reliance comparision chart) TATA Indicom has 300 photon enabled towers.

So make sure your area is covered before making a jump into wireless broadband.

Truly unlimited ??

Though both these operators have unlimited plans with a price of above Rs.1000 none of them true unlimited plans. Both have fair usage policy limiting the usage at 10GB per month. After this 10GB every MB will be charged Rs 2 each. This basically does not allow a high speed connection to its fullest potential. If you stream videos from or Hulu probably you will fall shortof GB's  within 10 days. So dont go for these connections till both operators make them “truly unlimited”

Pricing :

Both pricings are on similar lines , Reliance's nationwide (or 35 cities) access with unlimited costs Rs 1750 whereas Tata's unlimited (5 cities) costs Rs 1050

  1. i am also one of the victim of the reliance netconnect i bought the connection at december and i closed the connection on janauary but he never stopped me sending me bill i went to the reliance world again and again but there was just a consolidated response they say “dont worry” its not a problem we will do it right.
finally i got a notice from court to be present before lokadalath i was shocked then i again went to the reliance world the answer was the same finally i have to pay 3000/ rs without any mistake of mine. there are 1000s of people who daily come to the lok adalath daily all are reliance company victims.
The reliance is the biggest frauds i have paid 3000/ rs without any reason the actual fault was the companies but i was the victim.
how do you think that they have the crores this is the reason. Never go to any reliance postpaid or prepaid products. this is a kind request to all indians never buy these frauds products.

  2. Naveen you are correct about Reliance broadnet. I am going to face probably similar issue. Suddenly I saw the message while trying to login that your connection disconncted due to non-payment. I called customer care that to shocked me to know that due to huge bill amount of current month which is around 7000/-. THis bill came for just for 1 week(24th July to 31st July for hardly any usage of the internet, 23 rd is my billing cycle.) I don’t know how to tackle them but seeing your comment I think, I have to pay the amount

  3. Hi Guy,

Don’t worry and don’t panic. Now TRAI has made some vary good rules again such threats. Do one thing go to lok adalat consult a lawyer there and he will give you good advise n dont worry you dont have to pay a single rupee if u are not on fault.
i also faced same thing but i handled it wisely now i am out of it.
